The Hell Rings are a group of special mist rings. As of current information they are considered rare and high-purity rings, but are less pure than the Vongola and Mare rings.

They are NOT linked to any specific mafia family or organization. Their owners and users are also not specifically linked to any one family or organization.

Some information from Shouichi, from chapter 216:

– As mist rings, their primary purpose is to create illusions. However, in contrast to the Vongola Mist guardian ring, the illusions created are of a more powerful type, more realistic.

– The hell rings were discovered before the dying-will flames.

– The hell rings boosts and multiplies the fighting capabilities in the user.

– In exchange for the added power, the user has to make a contract, to allow the ring to consume him (a devil’s contract, in other words). This often corrupts the user, changing their personalities drastically, or making them insane. Thus, they are called “cursed” mist rings.

As of current manga information, there are only six hell rings remaining in the world. Five of six rings and four of five users have been introduced. What these people ultimately intend to do with the rings has yet to be revealed.
